| Mae’n bleser aruthrol gennym gyhoeddi ein bod wedi penderfynu cydnabod gwaith Ilhan Sami Çomak drwy ei wahodd i fod yn Aelod Rhyngwladol Anrhydeddus o Wales PEN Cymru.
Mae hyn i gydnabod ei gyfraniad aruthrol i lenyddiaeth ei genedl fel bardd Cwrdaidd, ac hefyd i gydnabod ei adnabyddiaeth fel bardd sydd â darllenwyr ledled y byd. Rydym yn ymwybodol, nid yn unig o ansawdd neilltuol ei waith fel bardd a llenor, ond am y modd y llwyddodd, er ei anawsterau, i gyfoethogi barddoniaeth bydeang gyda cheinder ei gelfyddyd. Mae’r dyheadau a’r gobaith a grynhoir yn ei waith hefyd, yn ein barn ni, yn ei wneud yn gydnaws â’r hyn y ceisiwn ei gyflawni fel PEN Cymru sef i hyrwyddo mynegiant llenyddiaeth i gynulleidfaoedd eang yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg. Ein braint ni fydd hyrwyddo ei waith a rhannu ei weledigaeth a’i eiriau gyda phobl Cymru, yn ein hiaith ein hunain a gyda’r gymuned farddonol fyd-eang y mae Ilhan yn perthyn iddi.

It is with great pleasure to announce that Wales PEN Cymru has agreed to acknowledge Ilhan Sami Çomak’s work by inviting him to be an International Honorary Member of Wales PEN Cymru.
This is to recognise his outstanding contribution to the literature of his country as a Kurdish poet writing in Turkish, but also to recognise his increasing recognition as a poet with a worldwide readership following the project initiated by PEN Norway, in which our centre has taken part. We appreciate, not only his work as a poet and literary figure but also the way he has, against all obstacles, managed to enrich world poetry with such beauty. We admire the fact that, during your many years in prison, in the words of poet Haydar Ergülen, he has managed to “turn everything into poetry.” The sense of hope and freedom that pervades his nature poetry sits well with the aim we wish to achieve in Wales PEN Cymru which is to defend free expression and to foster and promote literary expression to wide audiences in Welsh and in English. We feel it a privilege to promote his work even more and to share his vision and words with the people of Wales, in our own language and with the global poetic community to which he belongs.
